Love is the everchanging spectrum of a lie,
A lie to hide behind when nothing’s right.
You take form with ink and blood
Can’t you see I’m good?

The Easiest Chile Verde Recipe Ever OR Chile Verga (not really)

if you don’t know what “verga” means, look it up online. learning new things is fun. this recipe is award-winning, you guys. try it.

3-5 pounds of pork shoulder. or whatever. don’t use pork chops because they’re gross.
1 16 ounce jar of Fresh & Easy brand salsa verde
1 16 ounce jar of Fresh & Easy brand fire-roasted salsa verde
(The plain salsa verde is boring on its own and the fire-roasted kind is too thick to be used by itself. One of each is perfect.)

Trim the pork of excess fat, if you want to. Or don’t. Whatevs. Pour one-third of each jar of salsa into the bottom of a crock pot. Plop in the pork. Pour the remaining salsa over the meat.

Cover the crock pot and set it to whichever temperature you feel like using. After a few hours, check the doneness of the meat. If a fork goes in it easily, get another fork and shred the meat. If the fork doesn’t go in easily, cook it longer. Duh.

Cover the crock pot again and let it cook for a bit more, thirty minutes or so. Serve with tortillas and Mexican rice, if you know how to make that. It’s not easy to do, I always mess it up.

when you close your eyes, who’s there?

five or six weeks ago, i decided that i had to tell my crush about my feelings for him. a vivid dream i had about him helped me make up my mind. here it is:

i’m in class and he’s sitting next to me, inches away. the teacher passes out papers for us to read and as the class is doing so, he puts his arm around me so that his left hand is resting on my left thigh. oh my jeez!! this is exactly what i’ve wanted for so long! but it’s happening in a classroom and the lights aren’t even dimmed and i’m wearing a skirt and we’re in CLASS and THE LIGHTS AREN’T EVEN DIMMED so i don’t want to move things forward. but oh my gah, this is the sign i’ve been looking for. then the teacher starts talking again so he withdraws his arm. but i’m elated and nervous and i can’t even focus on class anymore. and he’s unruffled, as ever. then i receive a text message, and i see it’s from him, but i don’t want to read it because it’s all too much to take in. later in class, i do read it. “i bit. i manned up,” the text reads. “i think we can be great together but it might take awhile for me to commit. you have until 1:30, hilary.” i look at the clock. it’s 2:30 (how long is this class???) and before i can reply or talk to him because he’s sitting right next to me or wonder why he gave me a time limit, i wake up. i wake up and i’m so disappointed it was just a dream that i nearly start to cry.

then i decided that he had to know. i had to give it a shot. so i did tell him. and so far, things are going pretty alright.
