how cool is this?
my new favorite TV show (and the only one I make a point to watch regularly) is The Gates, increasingly due to the super slick songs played each episode. after scouring the internets trying to figure out the name of a particular song from the last episode, i found this. it’s always the last place you look, natch:

isn’t that awesome? and thoughtful.
polite Lamb of God lyrics for “Redneck”: This is another little invitation. We’ll ask again if you don’t respond!
is Jackson Rathbone trying to be Johnny Depp, or what? the answer is yes, and Jack Nicholson. this picture is super sexxx even though he’s making that weird expression.
She & Him’s latest video “Thieves.” can M. Ward and Zooey get together already? i know she is married to Ben Gibbard but COME ON! they are obviously meant for each other!
Girl in a Coma is coming to Fresno in August. rejoice! here is my favorite song of theirs, “Their Cell.”
let's get biblical.
- Floyd: I used to know this kid named Shadrack. what the hell kind of name is that?
- Me: it's from the Bible.
- Floyd: old testament or new?
- Me: old. he got thrown in the fiery furnace with Meshach and Abednego and then Jesus came.
- Floyd: wait, it was in the old testament but then Jesus came??
- Me: oh. hahahahahahaha!!
an analysis of the Eclipse soundtrack.
i like to guess where the songs from the soundtrack will be used in the movie and this time i wrote them down! i did okay; i probably would have done better if i’d paid attention to the songs i didn’t like as well as my faves. below are my predictions followed by actual placement. enjoy!
Predictions:
Eclipse (All Yours) - Metric: End of the movie, credits
Neutron Star Collision (Love is Forever) - Muse: Credits
Ours - The Bravery: Graduation or graduation party at the Cullens’ house
Heavy in Your Arms - Florence + the Machine: Jacob carrying Bella to the campsite or training to fight the newborns
My Love - Sia: Engagement or meadow at the end
Atlas - Fanfarlo: A school or La Push scene
Chop and Change - The Black Keys: Victoria’s song
Rolling in on a Burning Tire - The Dead Weather: Newborns traveling to fight the Cullens
Let’s Get Lost - Beck and Bat for Lashes: i didn’t make a guess because this song is booooring.
Jonathan Low - Vampire Weekend: i didn’t make a guess because this song is stupid.
With You in My Head - UNKLE f/The Black Angels: Training to fight the newborns
A Million Miles an Hour - Eastern Conference Champions: Wolf Pack or vampire army scene; sweeping views, slow motion fight scenes
Life on Earth - Band of Horses: Bella leaving Jacob’s house after she makes her choice
What Part of Forever - Cee-Lo Green: Credits
Jacob’s Theme - Howard Shore: i didn’t make a prediction because it was sooo easy.
The Line - Battles: Chase or fighting scene; highly dramatic, frantic, frenetic
How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep - Bombay Bicycle Club: i didn’t make a guess because i didn’t think it fit anywhere.
Actual:
Eclipse: there are two scenes in the meadow, both of them discussing marriage. the song is slowed down during those scenes and played on a piano. it is also the first song to play during the credits at normal speed. my guess was correct!
Neutron Star Collision: this is the second song played during the graduation party.
Ours: the first song during the graduation party. my guess was correct!
Heavy in Your Arms: the second song played during the credits.
My Love: this song was played after Bella agreed to marry Edward. my guess was correct!
Atlas: a whopping 3 seconds of this song was played during one of the times Edward drops Bella off with Jacob at the boundary to La Push. my guess was sort of correct.
Chop and Change: the first song played; Riley is walking in the rain and then Victoria attacks him. my guess was sort of correct.
Rolling in on a Burning Tire: this song is played when Riley and Victoria are interacting later in the movie. my guess was sort of correct; i knew that this song was too dark to be used for anything but the bad vamps.
Let’s Get Lost: this song plays when Bella is calling Jake and tries to drive down to La Push to see him.
Jonathan Low: this song plays when Bella ditches school and leaves campus on Jake’s motorcycle.
With You in My Head: this song is used for a training scene. my guess was correct!
A Million Miles an Hour: this song plays when Bella and Edward arrive at school after visiting Jacksonville and Jacob is waiting in the parking lot to talk to her.
Life on Earth: after Bella tells Edward that the vampire army is connected to Victoria, they start talking about how her life will change once she becomes a vampire and this song plays.
What Part of Forever: the last song to play during the credits. my guess was correct!
Jacob’s Theme: Jacob declares his love to Bella while this song plays.
The Line: not used anywhere in the movie.
How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep: at school during lunch, Bella and her friends are talking about graduation and this song plays.
i think it’s an absolute travesty that my favorite song from the soundtrack, Heavy in Your Arms, was relegated to the credits. it could have been used to great effect during the scene i predicted. it would have heightened the drama and romance tenfold.
The Line should have been used during the big fight scene and i’m highly disappointed it wasn’t. i don’t think any music was playing at the time.
i was dismayed that Bella’s breakdown after she tells Jacob her decision was left out because Life on Earth would have suited that scene perfectly. perfectly.
i can’t wait to hear the next soundtrack. they just keep getting better!
